Según informó el diario británico The Independent, este pasado martes el Viceprimer ministro turco, Bülent Arinç afirmó que “las mujeres no deberían reírse en público” para “preservar la moral”. En el mismo discurso, el mandatario criticó a las telenovelas, por “promover la decadencia”. Mientras daba un discurso sobre la moral, Arinç afirmó: "Ella no va a reír en público. Ella no invitará en sus actitudes y protegerá su castidad". Las reacciones se hicieron notar fuertemente.
Entre el martes y el miércoles, según estima BBC Trending, más de 300.000 comentarios y fotos fueron publicados en las redes sociales. Miles de mujeres turcas aparecen riendo en señal de protesta por las declaraciones de Arinç.Se crearon dos hashtags: ‘risa’ en Turco (#kahkaha) y 'risa de resistencia' (#direnkahkaha)."Soy una chica turca de 26 años y no sé hacer otra cosa que sonreír", "Soy libre, y reírme o no es mi decisión", fueron algunos de los mensajes que se incluían.El candidato presidencial de la oposición Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, criticó el discurso de Arinç a través de Twitter. "Nuestro país necesita que las mujeres rían y que todo el mundo ría más que nunca", dijo el político en su cuenta personal.
A speech made by the Turkish Deputy Prime Minister urging women not to laugh in public in order to "preserve morality" has sparked a backlash on social media from women posting defiant selfies of themselves laughing at his remarks.
On Wednesday, Bülent Arınç was unrepentant over his speech and instead turned his attention to women who holiday without their husbands and "can't wait to climb poles when they see one".
The backlash began on Monday after Mr Arınç condemned the perceived moral corruption enveloping Turkey and called for women to be chaste by not laughing in public.
"[The woman] will know what is haram and not haram. She will not laugh in public. She will not be inviting in her attitudes and will protect her chastity" he said during his speech on morality.
Thousands of women across Turkey wasted no time in ridiculing the Deputy PM's remarks by posting pictures of themselves laughing. Their photos were accompanied by the hashtags #kahkaha (laugh) and #direnkahkaha (resist, laugh).
